Streets Through Time

This project is a collaborative venture between the libraries of the Waimakariri, Hurunui, Selwyn, Ashburton, Timaru, Waimate, Mckenzie District and Christchurch City. In it, we plan to initially load up and make available images of our town's main streets through time. Eventually, we would like to progress to linking documents, motion pictures and sound files where these exist.

We also want to encourage members of the public to start loading on their own images and collections of our main streets. In this way, we hope to use the project as a means of encouraging individuals and groups within our communities to participate in creating a vital digital spaces with New Zealand and local content.

We are using the Kete software provided through the Aotearoa People's Network Project to create this digital space.

Each participating library will be making available approximately one dozen images in the first instance, organised by town and street name. This we hope will act as a seed for the collection to grow.

If you have a photograph of a main street in the Canterbury region and would like to add it to our online collection, please contact your local public library for more information and an easy lesson in using the Kete software to contribute!
