Canterbury Earthquakes 2010 & 2011

A 7.1 magnitude Canterbury Earthquake struck at 4.35am on Saturday 4 September. Liquefaction and earth movement caused significant damage and a number of historic buildings and structures were badly affected, particularly in Kaiapoi. Further damage occurred following the 6.3 magnitude earthquake on 22 February 2011, and the 5.6 and 6.3 magnitude earthquakes on 13 June.

The purpose of this basket is to collect material about the damaged landmarks in the District - their history and future. It is also a place for you to tell your stories about the earthquakes and share memories and photos.

This basket has open membership. If you are already a member of Kete Waimakariri you simply need to join the Canterbury Earthquakes 2010 & 2011 basket. If you are not already a member of Kete Waimakariri you will first need to Register for Kete Waimakariri, then join the Canterbury Earthquakes 2010 & 2011 basket.  If you need help with this please contact the library (Ph 03 311 8901 or email us)
